Income Tax Refund Status

Learn how to check your IT refund status securely via the official e-filing portal.

Important Security Notice

Income Tax refund status requires your PAN and password/OTP. For security reasons, never enter your IT portal credentials on third-party websites. Always use the official Government of India e-Filing portal or the TIN-NSDL website to check your refund status.

Method 1: Official e-Filing Portal (Recommended)

    Go to the Income Tax e-Filing website

    Visit eportal.incometax.gov.in

    Log in to your account

    Use your PAN / Aadhaar as the User ID and enter your password.

    Navigate to e-File

    Go to e-File > Income Tax Returns > View Filed Returns.

    Check the Status

    Locate the Assessment Year you want to check. The current status (e.g., Processing, Refund Issued, Refund Failed) will be displayed.

Method 2: TIN-NSDL Portal (Without Login)

    Visit the TIN-NSDL Refund Tracking Page

    Go to tin.tin.nsdl.com

    Enter Details

    Provide your PAN, select the Assessment Year, and enter the captcha code.

    Click Check Status

    The screen will display if your refund is issued, failed, or pending.

Common Refund Statuses Explained

  • Processed / Refund Determinered: IT department has checked your return and approved a refund. It will be credited soon.
  • Refund Issued: The refund has been sent to your selected bank account. Check your bank statement.
  • Refund Failed: Your refund couldn't be processed, usually due to an incorrect bank account number, invalid IFSC, or a PAN-bank mismatch. You need to raise a Refund Reissue Request.
  • Adjusted against outstanding demand: The refund amount was used to pay off pending tax dues from previous years.
